Orchard Road – Shopping Haven in Singapore

Orchard Road in Singapore

Orchard Road in Singapore

Ever heard of the adage "The crowd is where the action is."? Well, that certainly holds true forВ  Orchard Road in Singapore. This is where you can usually see the crowd - hordes of them, and this is definitely where you see most of the action - shopping action, that is.

Orchard Road is just 20-30 minutes away from the airport at most by taxi. ( Oh by the way, was i able to mention that given Singapore's size, anywhere's just minutes away - by taxi that is, with buses that's a whole different matter.) But if you are keen to go on sightseeing while you're at it, and you're not pressed for time, taking the bus or MRT can be an adventure in itself.

Orchard Road MRT station is located on the red lane. Bus # 7, 14, 16, 36, 65, 77, 106, 111, 123, 174, NR5, NR6, NR7, NR8В  will take you to this part of Singapore though I strongly suggest that you ask the bus driver beforehand if there's any particular place in Orchard Road that you would like to go to.

Orchard has got to be the busiest street in Singapore. The whole stretch of this boulevard is filled with shops, boutiques, shopping malls, and restaurants.

Basically everything you need for a day of shopping.

People come here for varying reasons. And there's never any shortage of what you can do in this part of Singapore. You have many restaurants to choose from if you wish to wine and dine. I personally suggest you go visit Cuppage Plaza (near Centrepoint and Somerset MRT) if Japanese food is your thing.

Or you can play tourist and take a picture of some Singapore landmarks like the Istana, official residence of the President of Singapore. Or take some pictures of the amazing infrastructures such as the newly opened ION.

But most people, if not all - one way or the other, come to this place to shop. Its been my personal experience that not once did I go to Orchard Road without buying something I initially never planned to buy. And I'm not even an impulsive buyer at that. There's just so many nice things - from the most affordable to the most expensive brandnames around.

Brands like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Rolex, Chanel, Gucci and many others has carved their own niche for their regular, loyal followers in Orchard Road.

Everywhere you look you're bound to see something that will catch your attention and somehow break all that restraint. And, oftentimes, shops always find ingenious marketing means to lure ordinary window shoppers such as myself to buy stuff.

In Orchard Road, shopping has become an irresistible indulgence. Which, I should say, is quite fine because we all have to indulge ourselves sometimes.

A serious advice though, just don't get too carried away in the whimsical idea of this shopping wonderland or you might just wake up to the harsh reality of credit card bills.
